I have rebuilt the carb on my TO20 maybe twice in the 25 years I"ve had it. So this time I went for the comprehensive kit. Good thing too because the choke shaft was broken.
But.... the replacement shaft was a quadrant off.
Now there is no tag on my Marvel Schebler but I have always assumed it was the TSX361A based on the serial number (low 5 digits).
So the shaft I get is backwards. In other words, if the lever and limit pin were on the right (as you view the carb from the seat) the slot would be horizontal. But mine inserts on the left so the slot (and choke disc) would be vertical and closed when the spring returns the assembly to the limit pin.
Several false starts with the parts department, who have been most helpful, and I am hopeful that they have the correct part on the way. But we are still in some disagreement as to why the kit doesn"t have the part that fits. They seem to think mine is some oddball carburetor but it is essentially identical to the complete carburetor sold elsewhere on this site for a TO20.
So are there Fergie carbs out there where the choke lever is on the right side? This would be the outside of the tractor.
That would explain a lot but it would seem that the dozens of pictures I find on the internet, plus the non-original but direct replacement sold here with the shaft inserted from the left are the norm and not some "oddball"
