T O-35 Rust on top of top cover and lift shaft

Surface rust on link shaft of my To 35 Deluxe was discovered when we went to replace the hyd pump.Is there a good way to remove this and the coat/treat the shaft from rusting again? My thought is that even with a new/rebuilt with a filter on the pump(the original one didn't have a filter} ,i ddn't want to keep havng rust get back into the fluid again and casue problems.

Moisture accumulation in the transmission is a
common, ongoing problem in those tractors. The
best solution is to keep it inside, or at least
under a cover. Even then expect to get some
condensation.

The oil will need to be watched and changed when
it begins to look milky. Might try pulling the
drain plugs occasionally, best done when it's been
sitting unused for awhile, see if you get water
out before it gets emulsified.

Be sure the shifter boots and the boot around the
top link are good.
