ferguson 35 timing

Can I use A timing light to set the timing on my Ferguson 35 and what should the timing be also can I use a dwell meter to set the points

I think its 6 degrees before tdc, the mark will need some kind of light colored mark to see with the light thru the hole, which may require the starter removal and that may require the distributor to be rotated for clearance with the long screw which I shortened for clearance.

6deg before TDC sounds right. If you can rotate it around by hand 'till you find the marks throught the sight hole then mark it with some white chalk, grease pencil, silver marker etc. you shouldn't have to remove the starter.
As far as using a dwell meter, probably not as you can not adjust the points with the distributor cap in place. You could check it with a dwell meter before and after adjusting but not perform the adjustment while running.

It depends on which Engine you have in your tractor. If you have the Continental Z134 Engine it is 6 deg BTDC, if you have Standard Motors Engine it is 1 deg BTDC up to Eng SF3818E and then 5 deg BTDC onwards. You can use a timing light and a Dwell meter if you wish, you can use a simple light attached between the HT Coil and the Distributor, you can turn the Distributor and get the EXACT moment that the points open, if you don't have the necessary tools..
