Hi again.
I have replaced all the bolts in my TE20 differential crown wheel, installed the new style, internal, press-fit axle seals, and the rear-end is now all back together.
I note that there is some "slop" between the diff drive-shaft and the pinion-shaft, and also some backlash between the pinion gear and the crown wheel.
Can't do much about the shaft "slop" but would like to get the pinion backlash adjusted. Have looked in my manuals and can't find any adjustment procedures.
(1) Can I just loosen off the lock nut, and adjust it without cracking the case to remove the drive shaft?
Anything to watch out for?
(2) Also, how does one measure the backlash to return it to specs?
