mf-35 lift cover

finally got the lift cover put on mf 35. the guy i got it from said old one was cracked so he got a used one. after several attemps finally got it on and working. little jerky but other wise up and down. now at one point with the side cover of i quess it was at end of stoke there was quite a shot came out of the rear end looked like an oil leak. tool lid off again seals on transfer pipe seemed good. put back together and all was good worked fine. could of this been the relief valve going off?

Yes, that would have been the relief valve. Need to
adjust the control linkage so it doesn't do that.
That's probably how the lift cover got broke.

The jerky lift is a sign that there are valve
problems in the hydraulic pump.

It's good that it does go off. If it hadn't you'd probably be searching out another lift cover or cylinder. Sources on here that know more than me say that it's a good idea to periodically make the relief valve open so that in an emergency, when it needs to, it will. There are many tales of woe on the subject. I only cracked my hydraulic cylinder but many others have broken the lift cover as you already know. My advice, if you don't know when it last had a new relief valve, put a new one on. It's not going to break the bank and it may save you some serious money later on.

If the 3 point is rising jerkily, that is due to the valves ion the side chambers sticking. This can be due to broken springs or there has been water in the system and caused the valves to rust
The Safety Valve should always blow if you lift the Draft Lever to the top ,BUT you should never leave it in this position,. You should actually check the pressure using a gauge as the Safety Valve may the wrong one or it could be sticking. This could cause excess pressure and damage the Top Cover or other components
Oil coming out of the open end of the Lift Cylinder means worn Rings or Cylinder, it will leak as it comes under maximum pressure, this could also be the cause of the 3 point drifting down. When you work on the Lift Cover you should always re-set the Hydraulic lever linkage and the Transport-shut-off height also needs setting or the Safety Valve will keep blowing when the 3 point is raised.
