opinion on drilling wheel centers for tip toe add on?

OK, so I've been running a 9N and I picked a set of steel tip toe wheels up for it - I ran them as a dual with the 12.4X28 tire. They gave great traction and quite a bit of weight.

Now I've got a TO30 and would like to put them on as a dual.... the 9n center section just required me to flip a spare center around and bolt them back to back.

For the TO I was thinking of drilling the 9N/2N large center bolt pattern into the Ferg wheel center and bolting the 9N section to it and bolting the steel wheel to that.

Any reasons I shouldn't do this?

Easier, neater, flat to flat fit if you find a pair of MF/Ford 24 inch centers. Then you'll only need to torch a few holes or weld a few spots on the 9N centers.

Hoping to do it with what I've got lying around rather than purchasing new parts - I'll see what my local tractor yard has available cheap.

But drilling/torching holes in the centers doesn't weaken/damage them right?
