First of all if they have a tag on them and it says Ferguson they were probably the best built at the time and should still be in good shape to use. In fact I am looking for a drag if it has the Ferguson tag on it, or I can tell it was a Ferguson I can get a tag for it.

(quoted from post at 13:28:22 05/19/14) First of all if they have a tag on them and it says Ferguson they were probably the best built at the time and should still be in good shape to use. In fact I am looking for a drag if it has the Ferguson tag on it, or I can tell it was a Ferguson I can get a tag for it.

Best built at the time? I firmly believe that the 3pt Ferguson disc was the best 3pt disc built of all time. The drag disc I'm not sure about but if it had the Ferguson tag then it had to be a well built, well working piece of equipment. Otherwise he would never let his name be on it!

I have both the 3 pt model and the earlier pull type. Both work very well 60 years later. The pull type works fine but you do not lift to transport. You simply pull it with the discs straight on so they don't dig in I may sell the pull type to anyone interested as I use the 3 pt. version regularly and just picked up a Towner offset disc.

I posted a couple of pictures of old disc
I liked the ferguson disc harrow, as it had the levers to make angle adjustment easy and scrapers . Main issue with any of these old disc harrows, is the condition of the bearings, if they all need replacing, its not an impossible job, but a big job and the axle can be worn down once you get in there.

I when with a med duty Altas 6 ft disc, it does a good job was $500 used. However, having slotted blades on the rear, allow the disc blades to bind up with the drag chains, have never solved this problem. I would not buy a disc with slot blades on the rear gang again.
Old Fergy disc may cost more if you can find them,

note: someone installed smaller disc blades on the outside rear gangs on this disc, that would make less of a disc tract, nice touch. without a drag you always have those deep tracks left in the field, or harrow over them before planting.
