Steering Box TO vs TE

I am replacing the housing over the steering box and the steering gear assembly on my 49 TO 20. I caught a tire on a post and now my front tires are split wide a few degrees. The housing also has a large crack and a piece missing. I assume I probally did damage to the internal gears also. Will the steering assembly off of a TE 20 fit the TO 20? The TE has the larger base plate that also covers the transmision. Can I remove the steering assembly and transmision cover on the TO20 and place the larger TE 20 assembly onto its place? Thank you for your insight.

My brother did something similar to our dad's TO-20, it just didn't break out a piece of the housing. When I tore it down, the gears didn't show any adverse problems due to the 'whack', the housing was cracked (didn't realize that at first) and the arms just jumped time, which is what I think caused the crack. I have a few extra bits and pieces (gears, arms, and maybe some others but no housing other than the one with the crack) if you find you need something.
