CORRECTION - T0 20 Ferguson .. Okay-My T0 20 starter turns "like crazy" .. fast .. and is connecting .. but the drive will not "kick in" and it doesn't crank the engine.

[Showing my ignorance] but what "kicks in" to turn the starter drive - is it stuck or a bad spring or something? the tractor has set for years - inside - and I am fixing it up to run .. Any advice? Thanks so much [I always get good answers from here!] gdtractor

The starter drive has a weak spring. You can either
replace the spring or the entire starter. The
starter is easier. The wife's Fergy has a 6V starter
kicking on 12V. No problems for 77 hours and
counting.

another thing that will cause this problem , and has , is the flywheel ring gear may have been pushed to the rear from years of the starter banging into it when engaging. It is just a press fit and only has to move back 1/4" for the starter drive to not engage with it. It will just spin. Remove starter and look through and see if the ring gear is tight up against the shoulder of the flywheel or if there is a gap at the front of the ring gear. If this is the case post back and will tell you options for fix. RB

You"ll have to pull the starter off to check for
sure, but if it"s been sitting a long time the drive
could be rusted stuck. Hopefully whatever you find
it"ll be an easy fix.
