Question about warning light TEA20

Hello,

I am French and have a little collection of Ferguson’s TEA 20 and FF30 .
I am registered on a French Forum for Ferguson’s Tractors.
One of my Friends restored a TE20 from 1948, 6V. Very good job!

He has a problem with the warning light which shows that the generator loads the battery.

This warning light doesn’t switch on when the engine is turn on (motor not started…)

He sends me a photo of the warning light and I am surprised about the coil that “surrounds” the bulb. (On the right of the photo)

Could somebody give me an explanation? Why a coil on this light???

Thanks

Jean-Marie

I apologize for my English ... Is not Queen’s English!

I have never seen that coil on a TEA20 warning light. Is it a resistance and if so, why?

Jean-Marie refers to a TE20 from 1948, 6V, so unless the globe is a 3 volts torch bulb, why further reduce the battery voltage with a resistor?

I wonder if that may be non genuine?

My 1953 TEA20 had a warning light with that coil on it. It was in bad shape, with the coil broken and globe burnt out, so I replaced it with a rubbishy looking aftermarket one.
Seeing I never throw anything away, I probably still have the old one to take a photo of!

Hi, my friend has found a picture with the Lucas Warning Light

Tle lamp is in 2,5v then a resistor must be "insered" in series .

That is the explanation.
Thanks an all

Ahhh. That explains the resistance!

Seems odd they would use a 2.5 volt bulb? Must be a hand torch bulb?
