diesel blow by smoking

If your fogging is killing off the bugs in flight
you may have a problem. If only puffing once in
awhile, keep puffing. Unless you have a desire to do
an engine. I have a Ford 801D that is need of a
grand (enginekit & some machine work)thrown at it.
Currently the crank is standing on end in the
bedroom.

Is this something that just started, or has
suddenly got worse?

A little steady smoke is normal. A lot, or puffing
smoke, as in one cylinder is dramatically blowing
worse than the others, or oil being blown out, is
not.

Keep an eye on the oil for moisture accumulation.
A leaking head gasket, mysterious coolant loss,
can disguise itself as steam out the cc vent.

Smoke? you want to hear war stories about smokey 35's? If it a 3 cylinder, it is a Perkins- it probably can be fixed without a complete rebuild. If it is a 4 cylinder standard Motors engine.. welcome to the club...
Go to you tube. search for 'MF35' or 'TO35 diesel'
there are some people proud of their tractor that makes more smoke than even mine. Compare yours to theirs.

well, i haven't see any bugs dropping out of the sky and there is no water dripping out of the blow by pipe so i guess i'll be alright for awhile. some day i want to restore it and make it all pretty again, but in the meanwhile i'll just take her out and let her do her duties. i just bought her a couple mo's ago and she needs hydrolic, electrical and brake work. other than that it seems pretty tight and strong and in pretty good shape for 56 yrs old.

As Tony asked, is it a Perkins or a 23C? I've got a TO35 with the 23C and it smokes as well, more so when you put a heavy load on it, but it has lived a tough life. The previous owner/s, used starting fluid to start it all the time. When I questioned him about using the glow plugs I got the deer in the headlights look. I have fixed the glow plug issue and it starts fine with 30 seconds of heat. I can tell you mine has some ring seal issues. I will rebuild it this winter. How much smoke is coming out of the blow-by tube running off the valve cover?

BTW, nice looking tractor... I really like mine.
