vertical exhaust picture

Hello,

Does anyone have a close up of there vertical exhaust on a to30. The shop manual does not have anything on the exhaust. I would just like to see how it is properly installed.

Thank you,
Arthur

I added a vertical exhaust to my TO35. I never hit anything with it, however, in time the weight of the upright exhaust broke off the rear outside corner of the exhaust manifold. Was picking corn and caught the field on fire with under belly exhaust.

I replaced the exhaust manifold and when back to a under tractor exhaust muffler/pipe.

I no longer pick corn with the tractor and the up right muffler was very loud.

Bob,
question: I bought a new exhaust manifold for my TO-35, 1957 model.

It had a hole in the manifold at about the same place as that tube on the outside of you manifold about in the center of the manifold. I had nothing to attach there, so I threaded the hole then inserted a pipe plug into the hole.

What is that tube for??

my friend has a TO-30 and the gas boils in his tank. He does not have a shield over the exhaust manifold as my TO-35 has a shield over the manifold. I notice your tractor does not have a heat shield over the manifold to help keep the heat off the fuel tank.

are the older tractors not suppose to have the heat shield installed?????

There ya go mate! Nay bloody worries!
Bob's yer uncle! The man asked for pictures, now he's got bloody good pictures!
Few of the early tractors have vertical exhaust around here... but we do have a few hayfield fires every year... low hanging limbs are the excuse, as an ex-Allis Chalmers guy, I can't argue with that either...

What is the purpose of the little tube at the top of the filter close to the big carb intake tube.
Is it for crankcase ventilation ?

Thanks in advance

Bart

That is the breather pipe from the valve rocker cover.

That is a lower end crank case breather.

Whilst I'm posting .......... a TEA20 generator output is only 11 amps maximum. The only 2 inch matching amp meter I can find is 60 - 0 - 60, so when generating the needle hardly moves at all.

Anyone know where I can buy a 2 inch -15 - 0 - +15 amp meter with either black or white face?

Thanks

Helo Tony,

The main reason I am going to the vertical is because we have a lot of large racks and some hills around here. That is how I ripped the old muffler off and cracked the manifold. We are getting rid of low branches and clearing most of the land for garden and pasture. I still have a new bottom muffler if I don't like the vertical.

I got the longer vertical muffler that goes more towards the front to keep it so it is not right in your face. I will see how it goes.

I have always worn ear protection on tractors. I guess I just have it as a habit so the sound won't really bother me.

Thanks Bob for your reply....

Ampmeter: I found a reproduction meter at Sparex
few years ago. Orderred via local Sparex distributor. I do'nt know if they are still available.

Thanks again

Thanks Bart. Looks like the same meter Charles suggested.

Whilst I would prefer a 15 - 0 - 15, the 30 - 0 - 30 would still be far better than the 60 amp meter I currently have, which doesn't noticeably move with an 11 amp maximum generator!

Thanks. I'll get one and try it.
