Pulling a disc

What gear do you typically pull a disc in with your TO-35? Seems like 4th gear is too slow and 5th gear is to fast I was bouncing around in the seat bad.

I almost always ran in 1st gear in high range. If the ground was really rough or wet, 3rd gear in low range.

IMHO 2nd gear in high range throws the dirt too far. I'd never use a gear that high.

Yea that's kinda what I concluded today just wanted to check in and see what everybody else was doing.

I normally pull my 6 ft Altas med duty disc in 3 low or 1st high,
it has slotted 18" blades and will really throw the dirt if you go too fast.

would be too hard on the tractor to pull the disc any faster plus too hard on the driver if the ground is rough.

much less cost to going a little slower than replacing or repairing broken parts.

I like the disc,
I plan to clean it up some this year, setting out in the woods (my tool shed) it picks up that green slime on the frame.

does not show in the picture, but I extended the top link hookup by about 4".

my TO-35 Ferguson tractor picks up the rear disc gangs a little higher with the extension. this adjustment does not effect the operation of the disc.

Unless you are being paid by the hour, or only farming on weekends, the disc you want to worry about is in your spinal column. Just fast enough to not get bogged down in the wet spots is just right.
