T 20 diesel draining battery when off

Hi,
If i leave my battery connected it goes dead. I measured the current flow with a multimeter and its about 250mA (0.25A). When I attach the battery clamp I also here a very gentle tap noise come from the box of tricks behind the dash (the box with 4 spade terminals attached that is under the bonnet just in front of the steering wheel, beside the ki gas bottle). Im not sure of the exact model tractor, its 12V and a diesel. It was recently restored so I wonder did they wire something wrong? It starts fine (as long as the battery is charged).
Any ideas on how to debug this would be great. Thanks.
Nick

If your battery is draining with it off disconnect the pos. terminal and when you touch it back there should be a small spark. Now start disconnecting the wires on the box till you narrow it down till the spark disappears. From there a wiring diagram will be needed to isolate the short.

The box with the 4 spades is the voltage regulator, there are points inthere that are suppose to click now and then. Got a manual?
You have a TED-20? John or Sam should be able to sort this out with you soon. Gosh, how many wires are there on a diesel?? 4? 5?

Hello Nick the box of tricks allows the current to flow where needed when key is turned off the power stops something is wired wrong the points in the box should open with out current stopping the discharge of battery. I'd give you a link to the Fergusonenthusiasts but don't know how i think they have the wiring diagram for your tractor maybe someone can help.

Is this what you want? http://fergusontractors.org/fena/wp-content/uploads/TEF-20-Standard-Diesel-12V.pdf

Your tractor is a nice basic electrical system.
Basic drain test.
Get yourself a test light.
Disconnect cable from battery.
Connect test light between battery post and cable.
Light is probably on.
It should be off.
Disconnect wires until light goes off.
Fix your problem.
Reconnect test light.
(between the cable and battery post)
If problem is fixed, light will be off.
Light still on?
Problem not fixed.

More advanced system requires the use of Digital multimeter with amp gauge. Digital meter will not blow the ECM/PCM. When first hooking up meter, wait about 30 seconds for computers to into the "sleep" mode and the amperage will drop.
Then pull fuses and see if problem goes away.
Still have problem? Pull wiring harness connectors. Repair as needed.

Hi,
That wiring diagram is just the ticket. Thank you for that. I ahve a multimeter so I should be able to track down the problem now easily enough.
Thanks again
