One Bad Rear Wheel Stud...

on the TO-20.The stud is completely stripped - zero threads - so a chaser/re-threading die would do no good.

It was that way when I bought it a year and a half ago, and no telling how long before that.

I have the rear wheels off, so this would be the time to fix it, BUT: I have no other reason to take anything apart back there: the brakes are fine, and the rear seals aren't leaking.

From what I read in the archives, the brake drum can be a booger to remove, so that the old stud can be driven out.

I know it's not ideal, but can I just leave it as is, and let the other 7 lug nuts carry the load?

i have one like that for many years gonna get
around to fixing it but it hasn't driven me crazy
yet looking at it with no stud or bolt you should
be fine

I think under normal use, this should be Ok till you have another reason to tear into the hub and axle. If you tractor pulled your fergie, this would need attention now.
When you are down to one good lug, yeah, you better jack up the tractor and get at it...

Well Tom,best I can remember the TO-30 I grew up with they bought in 1979 to replace the TE-20 they had. It was used hard on the farm from raking 250 acres of hay to pulling logs. It had a broken off wheel stud when they got it. It still is that way today. It never caused any problems in 35 years.

Thanks, guys.

Tony, I was thinking that [b:43f3e90a57][i:43f3e90a57]three[/i:43f3e90a57][/b:43f3e90a57] studs/lugnuts would be about the minimum, as long as they're evenly spaced around the wheel.

I may glue a lug nut on the stripped stud, just so I don't have to look at it - it kinda bugs me.

If it is bugging you change it. If you really don't need to get the drum off it probably will come off. Only when you need to get drum off do I have trouble.

No big deal to fix if you have the wheel off already. If you can get the two Break drum screws loose then pull the drum off and replace.

If they are a bugger the let it go.
