TO-30 manifold replacing

That time of year and I need to finish getting the TO-30 ready.
Anyone have any tips on replacing the exhaust manifold on a TO-
30. I have all new gaskets and the manifold. Just wondering if there
is anything I should do to make it easier. Is there anything that
needs to come off to get at all of the bolts. I am sure there will be
some torching involved. Thanks

If you got a TO-35 style manifold as a replacement then get ready to do some grinding so you can get a wrench on the nuts where the studs come out of the head.

It's a pretty straight forward job, nothing unusual. Just be gentle with the bolts. Much better to soak and heat and beat than to go strong arming them!

Look closely at the throttle and governor linkage and springs. Be sure to put all that back exactly as it came off. Take some before pictures if you can.

Much to the chagrin of purist, I coated both sides of my gasket with hi temp red RTV from Permatex.
This action has negated any exhaust leak to date.
Some people will advise against this action. I used it as a small measure of insurance against a possible leak.

Taking pictures is a great idea. I have taken apart and rebuilt the entire throttle linkage so I want to make sure it stays as it is. I will not fore anything. Do you need to take the gas tank off? It looks like a few of the top bolts will be tough to get at.

I have used it in the past but my main concern is if I have to do any repair later it makes taking it apart a chore. Not a bad idea though. I don't really plan on taking it off again any time soon.
