too much weight?

just picked up a to-20 for my dad. it has a davis loader on the front that i want to take off , but my concern is the rear tires are filled as well as have heavy cast weight rings on the inside of the wheels. I'm guessing that adds about 1k lbs to the back end, will that give me any trouble? do i need to remove any weight with the loader weight off the front? i'm relatively new to the tractor world (bought me a 9n last fall) so still learning

You shouldn't need to remove weight from the rear just to drive without the loader! It depends on what you are going to use the tractor for mainly. If just doing light work and the loader will not be going back on or rarely- then take some off so you're not burning fuel hauling weight around. You'll leave a lighter track in the yard too! If the loader will be going on occasionally, I would leave the weight on to avoid pinched fingers when installing or removing.

well my main concern is that his house sits on a slope, and was wondering if the weight increases the chance of rolling it over backwards while climbing. it's mainly going to just be a driveway warrior, but don't want the old man getting hurt

heres a pic of the tractor..runs but smokes. ordered plugs, wires, points, etc as well as a carb kit...hoping that gets her runnin. got it for $1500

The wheel weights won't make any difference with tipping rearward while climbing, since they're located on the axle.

As for being too much weight, I've got the same setup on my TO-35. And I've never run out of traction. But I do make bigger ruts when it's wet.

I prefer to not run out of traction, so I'll leave the weights on.

That's a lot of loader for the tractor! My TO35 had one similar when I got it. It came off quickly. Without power steering it's hard on the operator as well as being hard on the machine in many ways. The extra weight will still come in handy at times.

Yep, that's a Davis loader that was made for the 20's up to the 135's and 200 series? Yep the weights aren't the issue- the lack of power steering will be. That will be the danger on a hill with a load in the bucket, not being able to turn quick enough- unless adrenaline kicks in first!!!
