hey all I need to know asap ,the rear outside hub assembly that holds the bearing on a ford 8 n , 9 n ,or any other N going to fit this Ferguson to 30,i am changing outer seals, the other question is does Ferguson paint there hubs Red ?

well what is going on is I took my rear hub to a machine shop & he did the first 1 ok , I had already cut the axle collar off,the second 1 he wanted the collar left on , so I left it on ,I pick the axle up & go to put it on , it won't go on ,I took all but 1 stud out & the backing plate doesn't even go on the red hub, so is this a red Ferguson hub or a trying to pull wool over the eyes Ford red hub ,
so what color are the Ferguson hubs suppose to be ? I did not take pics of hub when I tookit off, thanks ,

chances are your looking at the primer that would be red i don't think the sure seals of the 9n / to20 will work on the 30 that is what i read not a 100% though.

Ferguson used red primer. Is red on inside axle or outside? The shop may have gave you the wrong axle if holes don't line up. Compare the other axle to the red one.

The outer seals on a TO 30 normally do not need changed, they are only to keep out dirt and maybe help keep the grease in, but they do not stop oil leaks as the inner seal fitted in the axle tube does that job. It is real easy to change....pull the axle, lever out the seal, fit new seal, replace axle .......easy?
Sounds to me like you shop guy wrecked your hub trying to pull it off and simply replaced it with an incorrect Ford hub???????

yeah , the inner seal was bad & the oil leaked out of the outer like there was nothing there & shop said it was really bad, so changed both , yuh know doing it right , the thing is I am doing 1 side @ a time so tire & all are on other side now , so I guess I have to pull that side back apart to see if there is red paint on hub , I do not remember seeing any but ,did not think that there would be an issue @ all ,.
like I had said the backing plate wouldn't even go on the hub on the floor so that got me suspicious & tried every which way I could think of to try n install on axle housing, so I have come to the conclusion that the hub is not the same 1 ,shop man says possible bent the hub ( ?? HUH, BENT Cast). I had removed all studs from hub but 1 & backing plate would Not!! go on , I was reaching out to anyone that knows for sure that Ford rear axle hub does not fit Ferguson To 30's axle housing, that is really the question,
shop man is coming this A. M. to try n show me I don't know what I am doing , I was hoping someone has ran into this before so I could just tell him where to go & find out , well we'll see what happens , i'll let you all know for future ,I am just sickend by this, other side went back together no problem @ all, thanks all

yeah thanks , I know that is probably what I will have to do , that means pulling tire on other side back off to satisfy myself for sure , I just don't remember the other side having red on it, it was oily ,greasy but still should've showed some ,the thing that gets me is the back plate w / only 1 stud in would not go on each other ,
yuh know where the axle housing is machined out so the hub will go inside it, that is the piece that is hitting hard against each other ( solid !)well I just going nuts here waiting for shop man , & really not sure what he is going to do different, I let you all know , later

You shouldn't install either of the rear wheels until both axles are installed and properly shimmed for clearance so you should pull the other rear wheel off anyway. I will be curious as to what the shop guy says.

Correct Trac: John (UK) has mentioned several times you do not use sure seals on the TO 30 as it already has two.

hey guys , this is what was the results of getting a Ferguson To 30 rear axle Hub back from machine shop of a changing the Outer seal, & yes a new axle collar, anyway where shop had gripped Hub with the Vise , (yup! ), Hub did have a lil oval to it that could not be seen or felt with thee naked eye , anyway shop man brought his trusty BIG MACHINE SHOP "RASP" with em cause I think that he knew where the issue was but neglected to inform me that he had had the Vise on it that hard to shape it just a lil different than it was machined too fit, so the Rasping of it worked it wasn't bad but had to be done , soit's back on & together,
now as far as shimming ,helper & I jacked the other side up so the wheel would turn opposite direction as it did before, had 2 add a .002 paper gasket and that was it as of 3 hours ago , I am going to check it 1 more time before that Tire gets installed, thanks for all replies ,
have a good day , later

yeah there is Red Primer on the outside of Hub in which is covered by the Brake Drum so it is not visible when Drum & Tire are in place ,
again thanks all

yeah John , I didn't use a Sure Seal for the TO 30 outer Seal , used a typical neo, , this was my first time into 1 of these & now I know oohhhh so much more, had I known that the outer bearing was a Dry (packed )I would've just done the inner Seal, & made just a Silicone home made dust seal for the outer Seal, live & learn, I've Pi*$%(*$%$%%ed away other good $$$$ on a Educational adventure before also, i'll add this to it ,,
Good part got work with a neighbor that is Diagnosed with the big C , so ive' got to say it was worth it , WE Laughed ,& Laughed ,& Bitched Fergie out , then said damn Fergie was clever for that ,laughed some more ,bitched the shop guy out till he showed , laughed some more ,Coffee was real Good as well as the jaw n , Love your Tractor like it was your first Love & all will work out for yuh , later ,
So when you get ready to send something to a Shop , NOMATTER, make a lil tri dot or something on each piece when possible , how was that for a lil advice (center punch is a wonderful tool)
