TO-35 3-point issue

Father in law was trying to pull some t-posts with his to-35. Had his box blade on there and chained a t post to the blade, as soon as the chain gets taught that's all it'll do. Says he took his blade off, put a drawbar between the lift arms and pulled a half dozen easily. He thought he had pump problems but I told him his blade doesn't weigh enough to make that kind of difference. Seems to me the draft control is messing him up when the top link is in the picture. Says he's adjusted on it but I've not seen it. What do you think?

in the past I have picked up loads with my 1957 TO-35, 3 pt hitch box and it lifted the front end off the ground.

last year I changed the hyd/differential oil in my tractor, filled it with GL-1 mineral oil 90 weight.

last fall I tried to lift a harrow with my boom pole, the lift would not lift the front of the tractor off the ground, but it works fine for normal operations like discing and plowing.

who knows, it may just be getting old like me.

I always have the draft set in the mid position and use it as needed when plowing.

it works through the top link connection under the seat to control the depth of ground engaging tools like the plows.

As long as the draft control lever isn't in the draft response portion of the quadrant, I don't *think* the top link should have any effect.

I've pulled t-posts out using the tail wheel of my brushhog on my to-35. And as maxwell noted, it will lift the front end off the ground without a problem.

The box blade does have enough weight to make quite a difference, but even more is the added leverage working against you, as you're lifting too far behind the rear axle. Still, the lift should have easily raised the front wheels unless it has a loader on front.

There may be an internal leak. Do the arms stay up when the engine is shut off? Creeping down is normal, going down quickly is not.

You can remove the round inspection covers and look up at the cylinder to see if oil is coming out of the cylinder or the stand pipe orings.

LOOK BUT DON'T TOUCH! MOVING PARTS INSIDE!!!

There is also a pressure relief valve in the back of the pump. It's below the oil level but you will see oil turbulence there if it is leaking by. You will need to have a moderate load for the tests, something like the box blade.

The lift should also be steady as it goes up. If it's jerky, there is a problem with the pump valves
