I couldn't help myself. I had to try a small spot where I grew some cabbage last year and and sowed winter rye on it. I wanted to see how the plow did...rocks and all.

I don't think Sam will be inviting me to attend any contests but the plow did pretty good. I noticed that it did pull much easier than it did before and I figure that because the coulters are cutting instead of forcing the shins to tear the furrow away from the furrow wall.

I hate to sound undertechnical... but I think last year's cabbages had more to do with the easy plowing. It is tangled old hayfield and pasture roots that are tough- you know why Sam and everyone across the ocean can plough... so good? 1000 years or more of being plowed every year, or twice a year... work a piece of land since the Vikings, and that should flatten a place out and make things easier as time goes on. At least that's my theory of tillage de-volution??
In weather like this, you must have had a sticky mess to deal with- I think you did a darn good job!
 
Too right Tony , their ancestors work has made their job easy . You should see the results of ploughing hard virgin Australian paddocks , something like the surface of the moon !
