FE35 petrol

Giday,
Have just bought a Fergie FE35. It appears that this tractor was a petrol / kero version. It"s build date mid 1957. I have restored a few old fergies & thought that this TVO version was fitted to the earlier TED20 that I have restored. The FE35 is a grey & gold tractor with high clearance front & rear mudguard extensions. Can any one tell me if any of the above is factory for this FE35.

I'm not sure what year they quit but I have seen the later red and gray MF FE35's that were TVO from the factory.

The FE 35 Gold Bellies are Serial number 1001-74655. Serial numbers from 74656 to the end of the 35 production were called FE 35s and they were painted Red and Grey but there were Mk1/Mk2 & Mk3 versions. Don't get technical and ask me what the different versions are as I do not know. HA HA

Like the high clearance in this photo? I am nearly sure the high clear kit was aftermarket....Mostly done by Standens in England.
There was a factory TVO version of the FE35.....Post your serial number prefix and I should be able to tell you the spec.

Well 2, far as 'I' can describe it... old fashioned kerosene lamp 'fancy oil'? Is that a close idea? Not gasoline, not diesel, not cheap pot burner kerosene. But a step above- cleaner? ... I guess before taxes, it was more expensive than gasoline/petrol in the UK, but petrol was taxed so high that this stuff was a better deal? I don't think they died the stuff at the tank farm like they do here. And TVO wasn't died or taxed? I am certain Sam, John or another fergie owning pom will sort me out here. I know they call 'kerosene' paraffin, I have no idea what they make candles out of... coagulated stale beer?

TVO stands for tractor vaporising oil. The closest thing to it available today is a mixture of light heating oil and petrol. To run on this fuel the tractors were modified [either in the factory or aftermarket] with lower compression ratios , higher water temperature , heat boxes on the manifold and hotter running plugs . They were started on straight petrol then switched over to TVO once the engine was hot enough . Australians only ever used a kerosene and petrol mixture , a lethal combination if you managed to put the wrong 'Kero' into a hurricane lantern!

Giday Sam, Looks like your on the right track to what I've got . Mine was found on a property rusting away & probably hasn't went for 15 / 20 years. Cleaned out the carbie, rebuilt the dissy, freeup the starter & after a couple of minutes the engine fired & run. Clutch worked, hyd worked & have all gears, I now have a starting point for another restoration and hopefully one day it might look like the one in your photo. In the next few days I will try and get the serial number to you, I think the engine casting build date is the 1/4/57 but I will check
