FE35 replacement starters

Hi

My ferguson FE35 (gas) starter motor is dying.

It turns slow and draw lots of volts (12v battery reads 6v when starting)
I have dismantled and given it a good clean (scraping commutors etc), with no improvement.

Unless I find a miracle cure, my next step is to replace it.

Current starter is 12 V Lucas M35G 1 25038F

A original replacement is very expensive.
Does anybody know another model or brand starter I could use?

regards

Did you check the bushings for wear, as in the armature dragging on the field windings?

A rebuilder can most likely repair it much cheaper than a new one.

Well spotted Steve.

Indeed the bushing was gone and the core had grinded a bit against the magnets. At my overhaul I replaced the bushing so the armature was centered.

I also tried testing the commutors with an ohm-meter.
Full resistance between commutors and axle.
No (<0.02ohm) resistance between commutors (measured 180deg. and in pairs)

Im not sure if thats ok.

I've also got an fe35 standard gas which makes the 4th I've heard of here in the US. Are you here and where was it manufactured?

Im located in Denmark, where FE35's are fairly obtainable.
Mine was manufactured in England (i think), in 1959.

Mine came from Copenhagen built by Nordic Tractor Co. and now lives in Georgia.I need to find a headlight for mine.

I have a grey gold FE-35 built on the last day of production of the grey gold ones in Dec, 57 Mine also came from Denmark as it had the dealers tag on it. I bought it from a dealer in TN. I am in WI now. Just curious, does the serial # tag say it was made in Coventry UK? Is yours a strait gas tractor?

My radiator has Coventry on it but the serial # tag is to worn to read anything but the number and the dealer tag is Nordisk tractor co. not nordic.

I'd need a translater for that link. If you want to see more fe's on this site just type in Heycharger in the archives and it pulls up his and Samn40's gray gold plus lots of info on where they are built.
