to20 distributor vs. to35 distributor

I am willing to bet that it will drop in the hole, Line up nicely, start and run the engine.
However.
Those weights in the bottom of the dist will give a different advance curve and that might give you a fair amount of problems that could range from no power to burning a hole in the pistons.
That is just a fast guess.

One of these will work , reasonably priced and reliable .Probably cheaper than one from a wrecking yard .

Thanks Charles. Definitely cheaper than the tractor salvage places around me. But it isn"t made in CHINA, so it is probably just a cheap imitation! LOL!
 
it might fit but you'd have to find an auto electric shop to re-set the sprng tension to get the proper advance curve. If you can find the specs for each distributor to compare the advance curve you could see how far of fthey might be. The Ferguson Shop Manual has the TO-20 spec. i don't kow where you get the the TO-35 specs.
 
I believe the distributor on a 35 is the same as a TO-30. Which the TO-20 has 24 degrees of mechanical advance and the TO-30 has 26 degrees of mechanical advance. So what you do is set the initial timing to 5 degrees while idling at 400 rpms so when the timing is fully advanced at 2000 rpms you still have the 31 degrees recommended total timing for a TO-20. As far as the timing curve a TO-30 used a less aggressive timing curve than the TO-20 did so there will be no problems there.
 
Thanks Jason and JerryMT for responses. I may take the cowardly way out and go the petronix route for the to20. (I still have a to35 waiting to be reborn, so I will reserve the other distributor just in case.)
