Thinking about trying notched discs on my disc plow

My discs are getting worn down on my plow and the current price for a 1/4" thick Massey replacement is $142.00 a piece. I know they originally offered notched or scalloped discs for those disc plows for burying trash or harder to penetrate soils. I found where I can get 1/4" notched blades for $40.00 a piece but I would have to drill my own holes, or take a torch and blow a hole thru them since they may be a little hard to drill thru. Anybody ever tried one with notched discs?

The manual that I have with my disc plow shows notched blades.

For the difference in price, I for sure would try the notched blades.

I replaced the coulter blades on my MF plow with notched blades, they work find.

Jason, you might want to try a plasma cutter on the discs. It will do a nicer job of cutting them holes.......Sam

I have no doubt that a plasma will cut nicer holes. We have one here at work that I use but they will not let us bring anything in and cut it and I do not own one at home. I figured I would mark the holes with a metal scribe and use the torch to just blow a small hole thru and then use a carbide burr to true it up to the scribe marks.
