TO30 Pivot pin and bushing

Saw the 35 pivot pin question and thought I'd ask one of my own.

Is there any way to know before I disassemble which pivot pin and bushing my TO30 has? Any visible difference when assembled or partially disassembled? What's a "swept back" axle that is mentioned as opposed to the other.

I looked at the archives and became more confused if possible.

Any guess by serial number? (Although I realize the possibility of a previous owner swapping different parts out.) Serial number: TO 65934, apparently 1951 according to the serial number chart.

I can tell the pivot pin and bushings are wearing out. It's my only tractor and I use it regularly. Generally I try to have parts on hand when I tear it down rather than leaving it unusable for an extended period while parts are shipped.

Is it reasonable to tear apart to measure and reassemble to use until parts arrive? How big a job is it?

More than likely you have the thin bushing and the same axle pin as I did. My TO-20 is 1951 also. There will be a part number on the front of your pin if it is the original.

The TO 20 TO 30 all have the swept back axle. Stand at the side in front of one of the front tires and look at the axle. See how much further forward the center of the axle is compared to the part out by the spindles this makes them swept back? In other words swept back and not straight axle. HTH

(quoted from post at 01:08:49 01/27/14) The TO 20 TO 30 all have the swept back axle. Stand at the side in front of one of the front tires and look at the axle. That makes complete sense. My confusion arose because the parts page of this site lists two possible pivot pins and bushings for a TO30. For both the bushings and pins they mention one is for "swept back axles", thus implying (to me) that the other is for the "not swept back axles". I take it that conclusion was erroneous. All are swept back, it's just that some of the part descriptions mention it while others do not.

This actually makes more sense now, as I think I understood Jason to say he needed the thin bushing (180344M1) and pin (183221M1), the former of which has no mention of "swept back" and the other of which is described as "for swept back axles".

Once it's daylight I'll follow Jason's suggestion and look for a part number on the front of the pin. Maybe then I'll know what I'm dealing with and can have all the parts on hand to keep downtime to a minimum.

As an aside, I notice the AGCO parts page doesn't mention swept back. I also notice their thin bushing's dimension differ from this site's by 1/64". Is one better? I hear the AGCO pin may be the way to go, although typically I order from this site.

Thank you.
