oil for tea 20

This will get a lot of opinions flowing, flowing much better than the oil on a cold day!

Originally they came with heavy oil, like 90 weight. Though that was good for the gears, it didn't work well with the hydraulics in cold weather.

Some have gone to 10w30, others with light hydraulic oil.

I was looking through the different options Tractor Supply had to offer, came across one that said "For older tractors with hydraulics combined with transmission oil." or something like that. Not sure what is in it exactly, didn't say, so I went ahead with it. Price was right, so far it seems to be working well.

Originally they used GL-1 mineral oil. You can use 10w30 engine oil also which helps if you are using it in colder weather. Stay away from the newer hydraulic oils they are thinner viscosity which isn't good for these older worn hydraulic systems and most of them aren't yellow metal and your transmission has bronze bushings in it and the sulfur in the newer hydraulic oils with eat away at the bronze. Stick with GL-1 or 10w30 engine oil.

Ah, the perpetual and perennial question.........

RVS, the TEA20 transmission takes either GL1 (if you are in a country that GL1 is available) or normal multigrade engine oil.

I use Castrol GTX 15W-40 but any quality engine oil is fine.

Never use heavy gear oil or hydraulic oil.
