35 front axle replaement

A neighbor has a TO 35 with a trip bucket loader and was moving snow when his center front axle beam broke near one end. I am going to try to replace it for him. I have ordered a pivot pin and a front axle with a bushing and I hope all of the parts will fit. I am wondering how much of the front end I will have to dismantle to do the job. It looks almost like I may be able to unbolt the knees from the center beam, remove the radius rod bolts and take out the bolt and the center pin and lift the axle out without removing the radiator but I am wondering if anyone can tell me if this is possible.

Take the hood off & you should be good to go The radius arms can be a bear to get off with out the right tool but it can be easily done without one.

Thank you. I am hoping that I won't have to disconnect the rear end of the radius rods, that maybe I can just swing them to the side or something.

Just thinking about your axle again. Hope the new one is not China made. Cast iron from China has porosity problems and is subject to a higher failure rate. Your best bet would probably be a used one in as best a condition as can be found. Fergy 20 and 30 will interchange and I have a suspicion the 35 will also swap with the 20 and 30.

Place a Jack under the Axle Carrier and just take the weight Remove the Hood, detach the axle extension beams from the Centre Beam and move them out of the way to the side, no need to detach steering or Radius Rods. Remove the Pivot Pin after removing the securing Bolt. You may need a crowbar to Lever out the Pin. When fitting the New Axle Beam, be sure to fit TWO collared Bushes, rather than just one. This will give a lot more support to the Axle Beam, there should be no load on the Radius Rods or they will bend . The only load on these Radius Rods should be to prevent the Axle pushing back, it is not to prevent any twisting of the Axle that you will get if the Bushes and Pin are worn. You may need to remove the Radiator to get the Centre Beam out from underneath, it will depend on how much room there is between the Axle Carrier and the Radiator Shroud. John(UK) [email protected]

Zachary, you may have to straighten the radius arms. I had to replace the pivot pin and bush on my TEA20 and the radius arms were banana bent - they did not come from the factory like that.
We used a hydraulic press and straightened them and they look like new.
