first of all merry christmas to all on this site! next, my little wifey bought me the to20 jensales parts manual for christmas! this book is awesome. it lists part numbers as well as exploded diagrams for reference. as some may recall in my earlier posts, i was torn between keeping my 51 8n or my 50 to20. well i sucked it in and sold the 8n! couldnt be happier! it is nice to have a tractor that will start in any weather with no problems and the fergie seems to have a lot more power than the ford. now just to get the to20 service manual. already have the FO manual.
 
Good decision. The TO-20 does have a slight power edge over the N series Ford. Harry Ferguson argued with Ford during the designing of the 9N trying to convince them to use an overhead valve motor as they were more efficient and will have a power advantage. Harry finally won out when they designed the LTX at Ford. That one was powered by a Continental engine.
 
It was Harry's last collaboration with Ford. They had a large tractor experiment before the later TE-60. It was officially called the 4P and there were 5 prototypes built. Of course Henry Ford II dissolved the partnership with Ferguson and the 4P was abandoned for the 8N. From what I read they did build a tricycle front end even though Harry Ferguson hated them and referred to them as "abominations". That was argument later with Massey as they said the TE-60 could not be fitted with a tricycle front end and he said it could be as they had already done it with the Ford experimental.
