Electronic Ignition

I have a 1952 Ferguson TO-30 that I want to put an electronic ignition on. It has the original 6 volt ignition on it now but has the 12 volt conversion kit on it that my dad bought from here. I was wondering if I need to buy a 6 volt ignition for it or since it already has the 12 volt conversion can I get a 12 volt ignition and get rid of the resistor?

Adam.

From your post it appears you have 12 volt ignition? You have a 12 volt battery? You have a 6 volt coil with resistor to drop the primary voltage?

If your battery is 12 volts you have a 12 volt ignition and need a 12 volt Electronic Ignition kit. Make sure you get the correct polarity, I assume negative to ground? (Reverse polarity on electronic ignition and you will fry the unit!)

Do yourself a favour, get rid of the 6 volt coil and install a 12 volt high voltage coil to get the full benefit of the electronic ignition. If you are installing a Pertronix unit, buy their high voltage coil.

Thanks for your input. That"s what my dad and I
thought I should do but we just wanted to make sure
before I went and bought an ignition.
