The original subject was " TEA20 missing and running rich help".

.

So we have had about 70 cm of snow over the last three weeks.

Have been using the snowblower throughout this time.

We had a bit of snow last night and I was going do do a bit of clean-up blowing. I wanted to see how the TEA-20 would do on a cold start.

Now it was only -18c this morning but with the new ignition and new carb the engine fired and ran after 1/2 a turn over.

Later in the winter we will get the really cold weather, -30c to -40c and I will use the block heater for those starts.

I am extremely pleased with the result of my, (our), efforts to this end.

Having trouble posting for some reason. Here is a link to my original post back in August. I bought the carb from YT for $259.

They only deliver in the US. The electronic ignition really helped.

That weather report makes me want to throw up. Where are you? Up near Edmonton weren't you? You have to keep an eye on kijiji, craigslist-and bone yards. Some people have really good luck with magnetic plug in heaters too. Did you find a canvas cab yet?

.

No West of Calgary in the foothills of the Rockies.

Found one ridged cab builder and two canvas cab makers. On canvas cab quite making and the other is still in business.

The two have not returned my emails. I will call them this week and see what is up.

Hey Hodgy, I have a 54 Tea-20. I work at Kearl outside of Fort McMurray but live in New Brunswick. Get lots of wet heavy snow down east. I put a Pertronix ignition on my Fergie and a new Zenith carb last year. It starts amazingly well and runs great too. Have pushed a lot of snow and now with the tires loaded it should do even better.

.

Amazing what some new parts will do for a 60 year old tractor !

I opened the gap on my plugs to .40 and I think it gave me a better spark too.

Yes the calcium helps a lot and I have chains on top of that.

Blowing a bit of snow here in the foothills but it is that light, fluffy Alberta snow, not the backbreaking, wet NB stuff you get down East.

My V-Type single stage snowblower works great here. I have some videos on YouTube of me blowing snow with that set up.

Hodgy.

If you have a high voltage coil, you can open the gap wider for an even better spark and further improvement in performance. I've run my TEA20 (with the Pertronix high voltage coil) with plug gaps of 60 thou and feel the tractor runs even better. I also suspect the plugs will last almost indefinitely.

Hi, don't intend to steal your thread, where in the Maritimes did you purchase your carb, or another location in Canada? Cheers, Murray

I got my carb from E-Bay from a supplier in England, even with the duty and shipping it was cheaper than buying local. It's a Zenith, can't remember the model. My tractor had a Marvel-Schebler off an N series tractor hacked up onto it when I got it, didn't work well at all.

Hi, sorry to bother you with a lot of questions. Where procedure did you follow, when ordering through ebay? Thanks, Murray

Murray

The new Zenith carby for a TEA20 is available from any SPAREX Dealer as Part No: S43654.

Refer here: http://v2.au.sparex.com/ItemDetails/ItemDetails.aspx?ItemNumber=43654

You can locate a SPAREX Dealer here: http://v2.au.sparex.com/FindDealer/FindDealer.aspx

SPAREX is owned by AGCO who own Massey Ferguson. It seems that every agricultural dealer is a SPAREX Dealer.

You should have no problems getting a new Zenith carby almost anywhere in Canada.

murray2 as Bob from Oz says you can buy a new Zenith Carb Part No: S43654 from Sparex.
In Canada Sparex is wholesale only and you have to order parts from your Massey Ferguson/
AGCO dealer. If you go this route make sure you bring the Sparex part number and web
address with you as some dealers are not familiar with Sparex inventory.

The reason I bought the Marvel Schebler carb is that I used to own a 49’ TE-20 with a Continental Z-120
engine equipped with that carb. The adjustment screws are more accessible than the Zenith account the
proximity of the generator.

I set-up a mailbox drop at Sweetgrass MT and had my parts shipped there, they notified me when they
arrived and I went and picked them up. There are quite a few companies that do not/will not ship to Canada.
If you know someone in the US, get it shipped to them and have them forward it to you.

I found a vendor in Winnipeg who has some stock of new Ferguson parts. Herman Remple, 204-254-5255, cell
204-771-4656. #6 Easy St., Wpg MB. [email protected]
I have not ordered from him but his correspondence appears professional.

It would be worth your while to order the Pertronix ignition and high output coil.

Bob we are more than half way through winter and the TEA-20 is
running like a top and blowing lots of snow.

Your suggestion about the electronic ignition was spot on. The
tractor starts better than it ever has and lots of power. The new
carb helped also.

Again, thanks from the hinterland of the Canadian Foothills.

Another happy customer. For Pertronix!

Yes, the improvement in performance with electronic ignition is quite amazing. And no more problematic points and condensers!

I also think electronic ignition is part of the answer for 6 volt ignition engines, rather than going to a hybrid 12 volt conversion. There is nothing wrong with 6 volt ignition.

:D
