TO 20 came to life today..

Bought it non-running but owner said it ran perfect a year ago but starter wouldn't engage and couldn't pull start it anymore. Well, I punched the flywheel ring gear back forward and tacked it so now that new starter/drive works just fine. Set the points and new condenser. Straightened out the plug wires for correct firing order. Rebuilt the carb. New plugs. Starts before even turning over once and runs and accelerates perfectly. Believe it or not this thing actually started and ran with the plug wires set for wrong rotation of dist. Not good but did run. Pretty forgiving tractors. New set of lights and this ole girl is ready to go. A TO 20 was our first tractor ever when we bought our farm back in 1961. This one runs even better than I remember that one running. No leaks anywhere. Make someone a good tractor.RB

Congratulations, RB!

Now, how about a picture?

I would have really liked to have seen a picture of your flywheel/ring gear problem and solution - that sounded interesting.

Sounds good , wouldn't mind seeing the ring gear repair as well . I am continually surprised at how the TEA engine will keep running with two and sometimes three plugs disconnected .

Will get some pics soon. It isn't the prettiest one out there . The flywheel/clutch housing already had the hole drilled for punching the ring gear back to the front but the people I bought it from had it four yrs and the ring gear problem didn't show up for them until the fourth yr which leads me to believe that the previous to them owner drilled and did the move. So it lasted 4 yrs without being tacked at all. I used wire welder and marked my front pulley 4 equal places and tacked and turned until I had 4 equal placed tacks. Dressed them up with die grinder a little so starter drive wouldn't hit on them. If it went 4 untacked then maybe 8 or forever tacked. Some will say it won't work. We will see. Nothing to loose and everything to gain. Thanks for your responses. RB
