New Tires

got some new shoes for little Fergy today.
1957 TO-35
BKT"s foreign made,
12.4 x28 with 8 ply rating.
new tubes and filled with fluid

only US made tires in my community were Firestones and they had that 23 degree tread.
just do not like the way that tread looks.

was worried the rims would not clean up, but guess the installer dressed them up some.

little Fergy and I are proud of them.
we will be able to plow deeper and go faster now.

Gosh, if that is a 57, why is it red? You'll have to do something about that now that she got new shoes.
8 ply is good. Did you take just the wheels? or the whole tractor went in the shop? If so, did he change them standing up? I need more practice changing tires vertically.

I'm jealous! They look bigger than 12/4. Wonder what the biggest size is before rubbing the fenders?

Tony, be careful don't you remember some of the postings we have had this year on this forum?? The last 1874 1957 TO 35s were painted Red & Flint Metallic Grey. See there is something else for you to look for. LOL

I had the exact same tires mounted on my TO-20 except I got 11.2x28. I am very pleased with mine. They replaced a set of Firestones that was on it. It pulls better when plowing than before. Used to if it hit a hard spot in the ground it would spin out, now it will kill the motor before it spins. I"ve ran over all kinds of thorns and had no problems. The 11.2x28 that I got were as tall as some 12.4x28 that I have seen.Every tire manufacturers true size is different from each other. You can line up 5 tires from 5 manufacturers and they will all be different in diameter even though they are supposed to be the same size. The comment asking about cost...my 11.2x28 was $241.00 a piece and I think the 12.4x28 was $280.00 a piece where I get my tires from.

The Firestone field & road 23* tire was equivilant to one size smaller than the older 45* Firestones. To get the same height you had to go up one size. And they never did have the traction that the 45* tires had and wrapped up in mud while the 45* ran clean plowing one following the other. A 23* Firestone on a tractor would be a deal breaker for me as with the luck I have had with them I would have to change out the tires before I ever used the tractor.

it was cream color with gray body when new,

I repainted it red, so it would look like all other fergy's.

I did not want someone to think I was driving a case down the road.
does not really matter, there are so many John Deere's in my area, that I have to drive the old fergy at night, so no one will see me.

TO_35 is a nice little tractor, can do a lot of work for it's size.

maybe I can sell the old tires as they were still up and running.

Funny: the tire salesman said when I ask about how much to ask for the old tires, "If I were going to do much bush hogging I would rather have your old tires, to tear up and punch holes in."

My 11.2-28 Firestones pictured in the other recent tire thread have the 23-degree tread, and I agree - they won't look quite "right" on an old tractor. (I confess that I didn't do a whole lot of shopping around.)

I won't be doing a lot of plowing (just my garden, at most), so I'm hoping that traction won't be an issue.

Sam, I have never heard of that over here but I did see that one posted from one of the shows you went to. At least I think it was you. Other than that Tony probably has one like that. I think Tony has stock in the Rust-Oleum Company.
