alternator conversion bracket TO-20

Bracket GFD 9315 doesn"t fit account 2 protusions above Generator bracket.
From picture of TO 30 mount , it looks as if those 2 protusions are where the generator is mounted.? Not drilled and tapped for bracket HDW9302. I am unsure about drilling into engine block, dont know what"s behind there, looks like may take 1/2 inch bolt, but how deep? Not a lot of room to get a drill in there because of brace on front axial.
Is there another bracket that uses the lower generator bolt hole!? Have photos if I can get them on here.

I've heard of this before, never seen one.. but 'I think' this is a replacement block. Those bosses were suppose to be drilled and taped by the rebuilder/ dealer. So yeah, get creative- was this where the old one bolted on? Looks good from here... when you go from 'gen to alt', nothing ever fits without hours of fabricating... with your block, you got no choice!

Not sure about how deep you can drill that hole but just a small suggestion to help with room. Try putting your left front tire up on some blocking. That'll make the right side pivot down and might get you a bit more room to work.

I'm interested how you make out with it. I have a TE-A20 that has an alternator bolted into the generator bracket and it doesn't sit square with the crank pulley. I want to replace the brackets to true up the alternator. I just need to find out if there is an aftermarket bracket or if I need to build one.

Like Tony said, you have a replacement block that was designed to replace a Z120 but they made them from the Z129 castings. You should also have a boss on the same side of the block back near the bell housing where the Z129 external oil filter would have been mounted. Those nubs in your picture are drilled and tapped in a Z129 block for the generator bracket so there is no reason you can't do it. I don't know how deep to go, but there is plenty of room there.

dont mean to hijack this post, but you answered a question for me that i was getting ready to post on here. I too have a TO20 ser# 28804 that evidently has a replacement block. my mounting bosses arent drilled either, and i have the oil filter mounting boss. someone made an alternator mount for mine that bolts on the same place as the first pic, but raises the alternator higher to allow for axle pivot. on the other side of block where the z number is, mine has z12 raised and cast in, then a flat spot with just the number zero stamped in making z120. it also has no rivets at all above starter where serial number plate goes. this answers my questions before i ask them. is there any advantage having the 129 block over the 120 ie thicker cylinder walls maybe?

Here is a section of the original blue Ferguson shop book that discusses the replacement blocks and differences between the Z120 and Z129.

so with the exception of the crank bearing inserts being different, if i need engine parts(getting ready to replace governor) do i still order them for to20(z120 block) or to30(z129 block)? i am asuming that cylinder bore and such is still same as regular z120 or does it match z129? i know that majority of parts is the same for both but have seen some that were specific to the model of engine.

The governor is the same for the Z120 and Z129 (and Z134) engines. As to the sleeves, they would have bored the replacement block to fit the Z120 sleeves as it was intended to replace a Z120. I have one of these replacement blocks in my TO20 and when I bought the sleeve kit for it I got the Z120 kit and it fit fine.

thank you very much for the info. it answers a lot of questions i was about to ask. mine also has the tsx458 carb on it which was(duh) used on the to30 engine. i am going to replace governor in mine due to not working at all even after adjustment and also has a knocking in governor timing cover. not bad but i am not use to the noise. almost sounds like something rolling around in there when idling. other than that, tractor runs great with 22-25 lbs oil pressure at a warmed up idle and even runs my woods 5' brush hog better than my 51 8n does.

Thanks Joe, I"ll try that. I saw a Dynamo Bracket tea 20 on another forum and on EBAY UK may give you an idea of how to make one for your TE.

GFD9315 doesn't fit either, the cutout slot doesn't
reach the original bolt account raised spot on lower
mount.
