Fred Cain 9Shank Cultvator

Has anyone used the Fred Cain 9 Shank cultivator on a TO30. Just wondering if it is worth buying a new one over a used Ferguson 9 Shank.

I don't know where you are, and where you shop, but in Northampton, WMass CL, someone is trying to sell a '59 TO35 with a huge bog harrow- for 1800. The harrows new would go for that retail. Like getting a free tractor. Even with work needed on the hydro pump or lift, if it is the deluxe, with live pto and hydro, it would be 3 times the machine your TO20 could ever be. The first time I used a 35, I thought I was on the star ship enterprise, instead of the Santa Maria...

It is just a copy of the Ferguson. It will work just fine it just may not be built as heavy as the originals.

I live in Lunenburg, MA I have a TO30. I will upgrade at some point but I am going to run this monster for a little while. I did find a BO-20 and I should have it by the end of next week. Old Mr Bill on here came from your area. I am near the big E. A long way from you. Brad Bemis is south of you, Skip to your east? a few others who come on here time to time. Man, everything I owned since I heard about Craigslist came from CL, once I crossed the Sagamore bridge to get some tires and wheels, but I find I don't need to go that far anymore, I am getting more patient. I do like Connecticut, everywhere is barely an hour away. I can't seem to get good deals up north, usually not good enough to be worth the trip. Hey external_links might have stuff for you, he is up by the border.

Can't hurt to place a 'want add' in CL, see who's got what that they thought no one wanted. I gave a cute chick a bunch of windows for her chicken coop- just hours before the town was going to come and toss them in a garbage truck, worked out well for all of us. She 'wanted' free windows and glass.
Like Jason just did, haunt the junk yards, they usually put aside what they think is useable- we pay thu the nose compare to selling scrap, but close to home anyway.

I should have it nest weekend. If I get all of the other parts I will give it a run and see what it can do.

If you are trying to cultivate deep and you find that the cultivator is pulling in the ground and then lifting out all down the Field, you should tighten the Draft Spring adjustment, 1/2 a turn at a time until it improves and runs at a constant depth. The correct setting is you should be able to just turn the spring between you finger and thumb with the Cultivator in the raised position, make sure it is set to that first and then tighten it gradually BUT no more than 1-1/2 turns. When you have finished with the Cultivator, return the setting to finger and Thumb clearance again or you will find that the hydraulics won't be sensitive enough on Draft Control. Should the implement creep down quickly, when the engine is stopped, then there is a pressure leak and that needs repairing or you will find that you will not be able to get a constant depth, no matter what you do.If you find that the Adjuster for the Draft Spring is frozen, then you must not attempt to force it or you will twist the linkage inside.
