Air cleaner blowing oil

I have an MF 35 with a gas engine. This year when I went to change the oil in the oil bath air filter there was no oil in it. I filed it to the "fill" line and put it back together.

When I run the tractor I can occasionally see drops of oil dripping down onto the exhaust pipe. After mowing for a while I checked, and almost all the oil was gone again.

There are no holes in the oil cup. It appears to be coming out of the seam between the oil cup and the air cleaner housing.

I've never run across this before. Any idea what's happening?

If you have a leaking intake valve it can let the compression blow back into the intake which would blow the oil out, but while the tractor is running all of the oil is sucked up into the wire mesh in the air cleaner. After it sets for a while all the oil drains back into the cup. Check the oil level after it has set overnight or for several hours first if it doesn't reappear the remove the cup and crank the tractor and hold your hand up to the breather and see if you feel compression blowing back because there should only be suction there.

It most definitely does [b:d2ba639b19]not [/b:d2ba639b19]reappear. It leaks out the side of the air cleaner assembly and drips down on the exhaust pipe.
