reverse in 1956 MHF TO 35

I bought this tractor 3-4 years ago and have been working on it on and off all this time to get it just like i wanted. When i though it was finished i had a stroke and cant even get up on it so i hired a boy to do thje bush hoging for me. Nearly every time he put it in reverse it would hang up. My question, What will it take to fix this problem? Thanking you all in advance. James

A new gear lever and pin usually fixes the problem. Holding down on the lever for EVERY gear change usually lessens the problem until you forget just once!!!!!!!

Try this too, even cheaper than Sam's idea. Tell him to let off the throttle till it is at idle. Then, without mashin' gears, put it in to reverse, whatever, with the clutch stomped down to the running board. Seems this happens when things are... hot rodded?? It will take longer to do the mowing job, but not as long as getting the lever stuck 2 or 3 times a day.

that problem of hanging gears was solved on my 1957 TO-35 when I finally learned:

do not, do not, do not ever pull up on the shifter lever when you are shifting gears.

you have to train yourself not to do this, just take your time shifting.

practicing this procedure has worked for me for many years now.

you just can not sling and blow and jam gears in these old girls like you can in a new tractor,
