Ok, I'm bored. So I need ideas.

Just finished 3 hours of breaking bad, so can't sleep. Can't pick on Inno and Miner all night.... so here's one.
I still don't have a TO20. But I have 2 TO30's... both run just perfect. One has no serial number plate, but does have a Davis loader... but doesn't have power steering... so lots of lookers, but no buyers.... I have less money in this tractor than most TO20's for sale around here lately.
I 'need' a tractor to just move trailers around- a 2 inch ball fore and aft... and 'want' a 20 to make the royal straight flush. Thinking bout killing 2 stones with one bird...
If I take off this 3 way loader... what's it really worth to anyone? But if scraped I'll keep the cylinders and hydro parts. Shame about the rest of it.
And what 20 parts- besides dash and airfilter, to?? fake? convert? a 20 out of a 30? Until I find a real one... how evil is the sin to fake a different model...?

Yeah that a horrible problem to have Tony being stuck with two TO-30's. Here I am all I can ever find is TO-20's. Your wanting a TO-20 so you can have a royal straight flush but I wouldn't think you would have a royal flush until you added both a TE-20 and a TEA-20 to the collection...lol. I got outbid on a pretty decent 1952 TEA-20 a while back. It went for $830.00. A complete running tractor with good tires. There is a TO-20 for sale near me for $750.00. If I hadn't of sunk so much money into my TO-20 I would trade with you Tony.

Having impure thoughts like that Tony, shame on you. That's your inner Heisenberg coming out. I think you should maybe lay off the Breaking Bad for awhile.......only four more episodes left, then what you gonna do? Hey, maybe you could "cook", that seemed to work for Walt! I have no comment on the actual question as I don't have either tractor. I have a neighbor that has one.........not sure which one, it's a Ferguson and it's older and smaller than my 35, that's about all I ever found out about it......oh and that he only paid $800 with decent tires and running. He thinks I'm nuts for all the time and more importantly the money I've spent on my 35. He's not a tractor guy. Yeah, he owns one but that's about all he does with it.

Doctor 2's prognosis is Acute withdrawal symtoms from no carling black label followed by a "need" complex, along with the "need" to reach out to others for help, then finally the voices, and then its the suicide attempt. Seek bedrest with Skyler and definitly no tractor work.

Well if you get a TO20 dash and data plate and some nice plain Ferguson side emblems for the hood, just tell everyone your TO20 had an engine upgrade and you're done!

Dan

Like all the emblems I 'DID NOT BUY' at the show? They were in my pile to pay for, an older fellow reached in and said 'how much for these?'.... I let him buy them instead... no harm... got to be polite even with Doctor Who...I mean 2... telling us it's OK to be evil... I am not going to tell the fergie world what TO20 parts I ALREADY have.... momma didn't raise no fool...
But a dash and plate would sure come in handy for my evil plot...

Good morning Doctor Who... I mean 2....no I did not sleep well last night, you NEED to beef up my prescription...
I have reason to believe you are in possession of a marketable supply of Carling Black Label... I'd like you to tell the camera exactly what you are producing/stashing down in Jawga... or should we let agent Shrader turn Skyler loose on you??? Naaaw... you'd like that too much.... I get a kick out of her little sister- Marie? A sweet normal name for such a phycho chick....
I thought I was the only guy on the planet who watched that show... It's nice to know there's a support group here for the withdrawl symptoms when the show finally ends...sniff... I'll NEED to tear the 30 apart then! For theorpy....

Tony, Hi!, I want to share a little trick I learned by accident about running loaders with out power steering. You have seen pic"s of my35 with a long reach wagner loader so I wont post one. I"ve been running it for a life time with no power steering. It always steered good , and I wasn"t sure why till I put new tie rod ends on it.
To make a long story short , it"s the alignment.
The front was 5/8 in. wider than the rear of the tires.
I changed the tie rod ends, Set it to 1/8 toed in(ferguson Spec"s) and it was almost impossible to steer. I put it back to 5/8 towed out and it steered great again. The difference is like night and day. You would think it would eat tires but it doesn"t,30 years- same tires.
I moved and spread 7 dump truck loads of dirt with it last week and I"m almost 60 with arther in both hands. Hope this helps you out-ed

Don't worry Jason, my money and your money are worth equally little! Inno's money might be worth more than ours again.
That's the problem, a 20 on Craigslist that 'needs TLC'... might be a money pit, and my well running 30 has no date to the dance...sorta thing.... it is such a reliable tractor... with a loader that I don't need anymore, just got the bugs out of the loader this spring, just as the 202 came back together with its old Davis...but no one wants the 30 cause no one has any muscle tissue anymore.
I have 4 way loaders on the Cockshutt 540, MF65, now the 202, and still an MF50 project with a Lord loader still on it. That's more than enough loader tractors unless I go in the gravel pit business... hey I still have the banana looking loader that came with the F40...
Oldmisterbill will help you drive, he knows the roads, and can't sleep anyway...

Yes your idea does work well Ed, and mine has light truck tires, so no ribs to fight or tear up the place. I have learned how to deal with it, the wannabee buyers can't handle the idea of it not handling exactly like a $20k Kubota -for 2 grand?
You should have came to the FENA show, even without a tractor. I know what trailering can be like... we could have used a few more in work clothes,

Tony, Hi!, I was a traveling son of a gun in my younger days, Been in 28 of the states. Now I live and work on the same road and seldom get off of it, But thanks for the invite. I have a trailer for mine for doing local work, but I wouldn"t care to tow it that far with a 1/2 ton pickup(LOL).Cheers-ed

I"ll chime in. Another trick with the loader steering is to get another set (or two) to fab together, of steering arms that go on top of the spindles. The trick is to weld them together adding about 2" more in length. Just be sure that when the front axle shifts up and down that the long tie rod steering arm doesn"t hit the dog legs. Doing this trick will in fact add to the turning radius of the tractor but you still have steering brakes. No?
Next trick. So you got a loader. Hopefully you also have a diamond plate reinforcement welded into the back of the front axle assembly. I do. No, it"s not for sale. I did this when the wife desired an FEL on her TO-20. This was also done because the original Ford 9N that the FEL came on had 5 stress cracks and the last one broke very nicely once I brought the 9N home and off loading it from the trailer. "^&%$^&*((^ !!!"
As for turningg the 30 into a 20 don"t forget the air cleaner top is also different. No?

Oh yeah, how do you put diamong plate steel on a cast iron axle?
Nickel welding rod I believe and an old stove with a working top element and the sides punched out to run the axle out of the sides.
The rest is up to you.
Another cheat is to have a buddy do it for you and all you need to do is scrounge the materials. . .
I will however admit that, Yes! I am the best welder in the USA! All I need is JB weld to fill the low spots and gobs of paint to hide the rest of the uglies. Me and my 115 Volt Lincoln welder can do it all!

Hey that would have been a hit at the show! How do you keep the arms up for a trip? Don't worry about a 1/2 ton truck... you wouldn't believe what I haul with a Chrysler minivan... but the roads in both New York and PA aren't conducive to hauling heavy stuff too often...
this is the light loads in recent photo albums

Come on Bruce.. I KNOW you have a camera... what's with the stove element? I can't picture it. As for the longer arms... hey I am in bind with the factory parts on the 202... the tie rods on the ??right side? are so close to the loader frame... yep...in some conditions, rough ground- they knock or get... hooked there till the wheel drops down again. And I did the steering rebuild kit thing. Loaders are such a pain, almost makes a comfortable high quality shovel look good...

Tony, Hi! All I can say about the mini van is wow. I rebuilt all the hydraulic on the loader and backhoe , They both will stay up for months without leaking down. I have to shut a valve off on the backhoe or it will leak back through the valve spool, It"s 59 years old. Looks like people were having a good time at the show.-ed

Oh, BTW... I bought a TO 20 airfilter and the mason jar dustbowl affair at the FENA show.. have 4 19" rims, just foam filled all the tires last week...so now I am broke... so but besides dash punch outs, what's in a 20? Casting dates and engine Cu IN's tag...what else? I am studying my friend's never messed with 20, his dad bought new in 1950... not a lot to notice... I worked on a TE 20 across town... oh yeah lots to compare when next to a UK/Standard engine model...
The pics are of a family's heirloom 20 at a show this spring. The granddad ordered it with this huge counter/timer in the dash... I could do that to the air hole in the 30's dash... a huge tack! and it would look rather cool doncha think? Finding another tack drive generator would be the hard part....

I don't no if I would like that or not, maybe for a night or two, haven't watched this weeks episode yet so don't spill the beans about the fire anyway your probably asleep by now after last night, wish I had your phone #, just for therapy perposes, try and get use to BL until I check my stash or just let rover tinkle in the cbl can, you can't tell the diff.Least now I know what to get you for Kritmus.

What else is on the dash of a TO-20? The little charge lamp indicator. You could take the easy route and just get a serial plate from a TEA-20 and stick it on there because they had the air intake on the dash. Just tell people you didn"t like the standard motor so you put a continental in it..lol. I"ll be honest with you Tony. You may want a real TO-20 but you won"t like one power wise because you have already been ruined by the power of a TO-30. I"ve used both and a TO-30 will pull the lungs out of a TO-20 especially if it has had the 3 3/8" overbore kit installed. My TO-20 has the old 3 1/4" kit in it that they used to offer and on the same land pulling the same hay rake there are times I have to go down to 2nd gear in the 20 where as the 30 would keep going in 3rd gear. Others may disagree with me but in my experience with both, the 30 is quite a bit more tractor than the 20. That"s why I"ve always wanted to find a 30 motor to put in my 20.

Aggghhhh... yeah Jason... I thought about that little red lamp thing... that would look cool with the tack... ahhhh.... pulling the lungs out... sounds like while I been watching too much 'Breaking Bad' on AMC... you been watching too much 'Vikings' on A&E.. might be time for us to go back to antenna TV....oh... but they are playing Alfred Hitchcock reruns...
