Piston ring end gap

I was measuring the ring end gap on my 53 Ferguson to-30 and at the top of the bore I can fit a .025 feeler or even a bit bigger one in it is that ok? the tractor did not smoke when it was together but Im kinda scared about it being that big? Thanks

the spec. is .003-.004 for every inch of cyl. bore. you are approx. double the tolerance. no you will not see smoke but it must be using some oil. the rings are worn and cyl's must have wear also. put the used ring in the bottom of bore and then measure the end gap. if it is less, then the cyl,s have wear "taper" also. do the same with the new rings also.

Is that with new or used rings?

Measure the gap in a few places in the cylinder, I would bet you have some taper. You should use the biggest gap as your reference.
