Rear Main Seal

I have a very very bad oil leak at the rear main seal of my to30. It will literally dump a quart of oil in 1 hour just to give you an idea. I know I have to split the tractor to get at the seal, but do I just remove the clutch and seal retainer, then replace the seal in the retainer and reinstall? I know that there is rope packing at the main caps, but do I need to mess with these if only the lip seal is leaking? If not does the oil pan need to come off at all? The tractor could use a rebuild as it stands, but I need it to last at least the summer as is.... Please let me know what the process for the seal would be... Thanks!!!!!

Yes the pan will have to be removed as there are 2 bolts that go in from the inside to the round seal.Pay attention to the lip on the seal and order your parts before removal. If you don't disturb the rear main and the rope seals show no signs of leaking then I'd leave that alone.

After much searching I found that the pan does have to come off too. How will I be able too tell if the rope packing is leaking? I plan on ordering the new seal, and oil pan gasket. Is there anything else I need besides time to split? I'm thinking I should replace the clutch disk while i am in there. Maybe the input shaft seal too?

Since it was leaking so profusely I dought you'll be able to tell much about the ropes but usually there is a wet area running down the seam of the rear bearing housing and the block. The disc and the front pto seal should be easy without the dual clutch. Maybe some gasket seal and threaded rod the size of the bolts to help align it back together. Also an alignment tool for the clutch plate.
