TO 30 Spindle Key Stock Removal

I am pulling my spindles on the front end of my TO30 to replace the bushings. I am having problems getting the key stock that holds the steering arm out of the spindle. I have tried a chisel from the top to knock it out and this has only removed material from the key without budging it. Anyone else have this problem? If so how did you get the key stock out?

take a hammer and hit on one end knock it straight in that should bring the other end out.

I have tried hitting it like you describe but it does not move. I am using my 3 lb hammer.

Have you tried heating it? You may have to heat it to break the rust and corrosion loose.

Finally got it to break free. Penetrating oil and some more hammering finally did the job. Realize now the bushings look like they have never been replaced. Oh boy more fun ahead!
