TO 35 Hood Latch

Did the TO35 come with hood latches? It looks like it has a place on each side to mount. The one I'm working on does not have latch. I've looked at several original local tractors and theres not one that has it.I would think it should have a way to latch hood. The 30's have a latch.

The parts book is showing a hood latch rod, however it was used on S/N 176341 and up which would be the last 1874 TO 35s built in 1957 until the end of TO 35 production. In my opinion it looks like a battery cover hold down rod, upside down. I would have to say yours should not have this rod.

The slot in picture is all I see where a latch goes. Can't see anything on hood. I'm sure your right. Just seems like they should have had something to hold hood down other than the weight. Is there anything that goes in slot in picture?

The pictures show what the latch rods look like and where the attach to the hood and dash. I got mine on ebay, but the "Z" bends were not quite tight enough. I heated the bends with a torch and rebent them and now they work fine.

Mine is a '55 TO35 #156085. The pictures are before I rebent the rods. I only had to rebend the "Z" were it inserts into the hood so it would be more parallel to the hood and line up with the slot in the dash.

My 1955 To-35 (S/N 141741) has latches.. I'm not sure if they're original or not, but the look like they may be. No Z to them though, just a hook bent at a tight enough angle to hang onto the hole in the hood.

Maybe that owners didn't hook them good and they were lost off hood.I'm going to add them to tractor when I go back together. The cost is $3.97 ea so why not.

Xwild what do you mean by latches? The early 35s had two buttons that had to be pushed in order to open the center door. 176340 was the last one (supposedly) that used the two push buttons and went with a knurled knob in the center of the door to open the center door.

The hood latches can be found on "Yesterdays Tractor Co. " parts pages. In the sheet metal and body parts , part # 180654M1WN --listed at $10.50 each. My TO-35 / year 1959 had them but i drove it around with them not tight and lost them . I found them on E-Bay too , about the same price. The center door to put fuel in on mine has the single twist to lock knob on it.

The hood hold downs... I've got the buttons for the door in the hood.. and 2 hold down rods for the main hood.
