Diesel from a taxi into a TE-20?

I only ask because someone here would probably know!
I have a 1949 TE-20. And, a 1967 London Austin taxi cab with a four cylinder diesel in it. Standard trans. Would that engine hook right up to my Fergie?

Joe

You would probably need to make an adapter plate and a subframe
to carry the front axle cradle It amy also need alterations to the
flywheel. But anything is possible! The photos are of a Diahatsu
4track engine in a Faergie

That looks like fun! When I overhauled the 23C in my TO-35 I drilled and tapped the block for a turbo drainline. Have not put the turbo on yet though. The MF S90 puller has over 30 psi boost pressure that is my summer playtoy. Have you seen any MF tractors with the 4 cyl 318 Perkins with turbo added at pulls where you are?

No, all pullers here are 6 cylinder or V8s. We did however build a TE20 petrol and managed to get 200 hp out of the stock block with Triumph TR4 sports car preformance parts fitted. High lift cam, twin choke webers etc.
I may have been talking to you in MO last year at the Expo. Was it you with the super90? and the purdy girlfriend?

This is a 4.236 puller, built by the' Massey Lads' It is basically a
MF265 and it was unbeatable in it's day. Shows what you can do
with a bit of spare cash and plenty of time!

I have seen a TE-A Fergie with this conversion rusting away in a farmyard near Leek in Staffordshire, England. I think there was a home built flywheel adaptor plate, also the front axle bracket needs re-working to bolt up to the BMC engine.

I saw this at the M-F training school, I was on one of the 2 week service courses, the 3000 series tractors had just come out. The Perkoil express was also there. Are these tractors still around? It's over 20 years now since I saw them.

Yep,it had the little BMC Diesel out of an Austin Taxi, AKA the London Black Cab, anyway wasn"t the Austin Taxi engine also used in the Leyland 154 tractor too? The little Leyland was a design product of Harry Ferguson Research Ltd and shared a lot of design features with the TE tractors

Remember I saw the conversion in a TE-A-20, you say a TE-20. The TE-A has the Standard Motor Co engine, the TE has a Continental, don't know if there were differences in the bell housing etc, perhaps somebody on this fourum would know. It is 10 years or so since I last saw the tractor, I do remember there was a flame cut adaptor plate at the bell housing. The owner is now no longer with us and as I left England 8 years ago now I have no idea of the whereabouts of the tractor now, probbably returned as a Chineese truck cylinder head after his relations suddenly apeared from nowhere and cleaned up when he passed away. Good luck with the conversion!

I have a TEA 20 that I'm installing a 2.2 liter Perkins. It is slightly longer, so I will have to move the center axle piece forward. I will end up with a gap at the rear of the hood. I also will need to hollow out the fuel tank from the bottom, so that the hood will close down. It is a balancing act to build a sub-frame that will hold up the front end without overstressing the engine block or bell housing. Hopefully the side motor mounts will provide a good perch.
