my latest 35 is 6 volt. I have a 12 volt generator that looks like it will bolt up the same as the 6 volt genny.
if I do decide to convert what other pieces, besides battery, to the puzzle will I have to invest in ? working lights are NOT a factor.
thanks.

You would need a new voltage regulator and coil. I think that is all you would need if you aren"t worried about the lights and you have to switch the wires on the coil. Run the - side to the points and + to the 12 volt source.

You would need a 12 volt regulator (quality one may be hard to find and pricey) and either a direct 12 volt coil "no resistor required" (NAPA IC14SB or equivalent) or a ballast resistor between switch and coil.

You would not need to change battery ground with a generator, but make sure regulator matches battery ground. If positive ground the + on coil goes to distributor, if negative ground the - on coil goes to distributor. Polarize generator before starting engine.

If you switch from positive to negative ground be sure regulator is for negative ground, polarize generator, connect coil as above, and check ammeter if it has one. With switch on, points closed, and engine not running the ammeter should show negative. If it is positive switch ammeter connections.

Points, condenser do not care if 6 or 12 volts or positive or negative ground

6 volt starter should work on 12 volts and will turn same direction regardless of battery polarity

Very nice,if i wasn't as smart as i think i'm am i would print that out and keep it just in case the (brain gets a little Foggy)

I actually switch my TO30 back to 6 volt just lately, to make use of a nice 6v battery just laying around. All generators and alt make more than enough voltage, I have a one wire alt that puts out 118v at a hi idle. Yes polarity must be right, voltage regulator must do it's job for what you want, but some one before me put a voltage reducer on my Cockshutt to keep the rest as is. Still all works...
