The original subject was "Re: GL11 TransHyd oil".

Ok.. came across this when trying to figure out what oil to use in my 1941 Farmall B transmission. I just put new GL-5 80w90 and the old oil was white.

I am confused now... Which oil should I put in the transmission? I don"t want to damage anything. I"ve also heard people talk about "hydra" or something. This is my first tractor and I just want to make sure I do it right.

Thanks for clarifying!

GL5 is not yellow metal safe. If there is any brass or bronze bushings in your transmission or hydraulic system the GL5 will slowly eat away at them. What you want is GL1. It is straight 90w mineral oil that has no additives like sulfur,etc... You can get it at NAPA in 5 gallon buckets or at a TSC in 2 gallon jugs and it's called Ford Mineral oil. You may be ok in using the GL5 but I personally won't chance it. My Ferguson 20, my Farmall Super A, my John Deere A all get the same mineral oil.
