That is a really good question! I hope the FENA editor's do an article, or series, on this subject. It seems because of the 'Commonwealth trade arrangements' , seems Canada HAD to import British made fergies, rather than Detroit made models, or the French diesels... up to a point? Because it seems there are US made TO35's in Canada... but since new? or private purchases trucked over the border thru the years? And the shock when in 1955,'56, Massey Harris was selling the 50's-in both countries? And HF dealers, in the states atleast, had both 35's and F40's... and the UK wasn't even producing a live pto model yet? ... hey I bet Canadian farmers were considering smuggling the things across like they were booze and cigarettes!!
And yes, the French diesels were showing up in the states... were they imported into Canada aswell? I kinda doubt it, till the mid 60's anyway. dunno. I hope some one can 'enlighten us'....
