need a history lesson

In which Countries were various versions of the Ferguson sold? I see quite a few te-20's in the area, some 30's, but they are all gas. Were the TEF-20's ever sold in Canada or the US?

I am a huge fan of diesels, and for summer use a diesel would be excellent!

That is a really good question! I hope the FENA editor's do an article, or series, on this subject. It seems because of the 'Commonwealth trade arrangements' , seems Canada HAD to import British made fergies, rather than Detroit made models, or the French diesels... up to a point? Because it seems there are US made TO35's in Canada... but since new? or private purchases trucked over the border thru the years? And the shock when in 1955,'56, Massey Harris was selling the 50's-in both countries? And HF dealers, in the states atleast, had both 35's and F40's... and the UK wasn't even producing a live pto model yet? ... hey I bet Canadian farmers were considering smuggling the things across like they were booze and cigarettes!!
And yes, the French diesels were showing up in the states... were they imported into Canada aswell? I kinda doubt it, till the mid 60's anyway. dunno. I hope some one can 'enlighten us'....

From what I have read the U.S. did not export any tractors. All the exporting was done from the UK. I say this was due to the tariffs imposed by the importing country, much cheaper tariffs from England than the U.S. I suspect there were some U.S. built tractors that went across the border by private individuals, and they could also have had them shipped to other countries for their own use as well.

Don't forget about the factory that was set up in Australia to assemble TE20's. They shipped them from England in crates and they finished putting them together in Australia. I don't know if there were any variants from the TE20 assembled there. I would assume there was since they had most every type of Ferguson implement there also back then.

I'll tell ya Richard,I don't think it was taxes and tariffs as much as- helping Mother England out of a bind. The UK was in such bad straights compare to US and Canada for years after the war, that as part of the Empire/ Commonwealth, the great white north was committed to buy from the UK if identical choices were available.... grey fergies-UK, small cars- UK, lathes, milling machines-UK.... luxury cars, trucks, if they weren't produced on Canadian assembly lines, they could come from the states to the showroom without violating the British agreement, which ment a big tax.
I think Canadians got bored with this the same time the UK was getting involved with the European Union... so became nill in the 60's..
I think Canada always and still makes more Fords and Chevys than the US, and there were names like 'Buick McGlaphlen' or something like that, and instead of Dodge D series, some were 'Chrysler Fargo pickups'.... I remember seeing those driving around... an uncle in Montreal had a 'Ford Frontenac'....kinda rember that too..and I am a sweet innocent young feller...
Hey until recently, I thought all Massey Fergusons were made in Canada... I didn't know about Detroit till I joined FENA and read the articles....
