I will be looking at the TO-35 I mentioned earlier. what is a good way to determine the eng. condition without the engine running ?
basically I want to be sure the eng. is not stuck.
thanks.

just shooting in the wind here:

might take a good hot battery with you.
tools to take plugs out
shoot some 30 weight oil in each plug hole.
use a compression checker and check the health of each cylinder.

about all I would know to do,

I have forgotten what psi you should have in this motor, something around 125-135 psi

if you have one reading 60-70 psi you know you have problems.

others know much more about this than I do,
they will kick in and give you good advice, all my advice will do in get you in trouble and is worth what you paid for it.

Put the tractor in top gear and rock it backwards and forward while watching the fan belt. or catch the fan belt and try turning the engine over. Look at dipstick for signs of milky oil or in the rad for globs of oil in the water.....Not the best tests in the world but they have worked ok for me!

Bring a battery -point file- some gas -a small tube to siphon some gas in the cab (you can also cup the tube in ur hand and let the carb draw some fuel to run a bit on if it won't run off the carb. And of course a bunch of assortedtools. I once bought a Case that had sat for 6 years for 1500 with a loader .Took 15 minutes and I drove it on a trailer -had it on a job in 2 days. That was 1994 still am running it but will over haul the engine later this summer (a 3cyl case is lacking in the power dept) its my favorite tractor by the way. I drove it 18 years B4 I bought it (working in that sameorchard) wanted it ever since.LOL
