TO-30 I.D. Tag

Is there any way to restore or replace the I.D. tag on the steering column?

Usually what I do on a piece like that, that has raised letters is clean it up the best you can and then mask off the outer border around all the patent numbers. Paint the entire area with the blue and then after it dries take a real fine piece of sandpaper and sand the top of the numbers revealing the aluminum. Unmask the border and then use a satin clear over the whole tag.

Thanks everyone, I will try what Jason suggested. I have the plate off the steering column and cleaned up and masked. Need to find the matching blue paint now.

A hobby shop with model railroad paints. Depends on what yours faded to... Boston and Maine blue, Conrail blue, take the plate with you and match it up. Then clear coat it with something that won't react badly.

Del, as Tony suggested, I was able to find a blue that was very close at a hobby shop, that I used to repaint a hood emblem. (I matched it to some repro side emblems.)

If you want to give it a try, I'll drop a bottle to you in the mail. (I have plenty!)

Thanks Tom and Tony but by the time I read these posts I had already went to O'Rileys and ordered a spray can of Krylon 1927 which was listed on the FENA website as the blue color. The paint will be in tomorrow morning. Thanks again for your help.
