Gas Tank cleaning

What is the best way to clean out the inside of the tank? Just taking it off and sloshing gas around in it then dumping it out? Is there something that would work better than this with no costs involved?

I have always used muratic acid to help clean mine out, but whatever you choose to pour in it it helps if you put a few nuts and bolts or some gravel in it to help knock the corrosion and rust loose.

Some guys have put water & either nuts, washers & bolts or small stones inside their tanks & then install the cap . Then tie or chain the tank to another tractors rear wheel & then go for a ride . Then empty the tank , & rinse inside with clean water a couple times . Inspect the inside . If it still has rust or scale , repeat the procedure again . Now let it dry good before installing a good gas tank sealer . HTH ! God bless , Ken

I have seen this done.
Wash tank out really well , clean inside with hydrochloric acid , add solder flux [ killed or abated acid ] then put pieces of chopped solder into the tank and heat over a barbecue till solder melts ,coats inside of tank and seals any pin pricks.
Too much risk of explosion for my liking but it seems to work , we are a gung ho lot in Australia.
