Clutch alignment tool TO-35

I'm finally ordering all the little bits and pieces to get the clutch back on my TO35 and get it all back together. I had the clutch professionally rebuilt and the flywheel machined etc. a while back and I'm just getting some seals replaced. I ordered a clutch alignment tool from this site without first going to count the number of splines on my input shafts, my mistake. Both my clutches have 10 splines. The only tool I can find has 10 splines and 25 splines. I see the tool with 10 and 10 splines comes with a clutch kit but I can't seem to find it separately. I am usually pretty good at finding things online but this time I'm coming up short.

here is something to get you started, watch it one is 1-1/8" the other is 1-3/4 both are 10 splines. "https://www.link_disallowed/Massey_Ferguson_TO35_Clutch_s/1110.htm

Inno, this site has the clutch aligning tool. Cheaper than the other one I tried to send to you. Make sure you check to get the correct size.

I know the size I need but I just can't seem to turn it up when I search for it.

I had the same problem with the dual clutch alignment tool from YT parts. I just put it in a lathe and ground down the 25 spline section until it fit snugly through the 10 spline clutch disk. Had to be careful as the plastic would heat up as I cut it. It worked fine, all you really need is to keep everything centered when you install the clutch assembly.

I know it's not rocket science, what is frustrating to me is that they list one in all the clutch rebuild kits but I can't find the one I need all by itself. The pilot bearing ID is also a little larger than the tool. If I had a lathe that's what I would do. Definitely not worth machine shop rates to have them turn it down or make me one that fits.

Bloody ozzie ingenuity is neck in neck with yankee ingenuity that's fer bloody sure! Red Green would be proud!
The duct tape even has enough 'give' to fall into and get cut by the splines of the outer plate... the last couple clutches I did went together with a third hand... someone turning the starter over as you are jimmying the jack, seems like hot rod hackery, but gosh, a pilot bearing the size of a dime, two sets of splines, almost impossible to line both up on plates AND shafts... you could fight these things for 3 days and still lose... I did!
As far as an inner first/one plate job, but would still need the handyman's secret weapon is a.. ??? '1936-2005 Chevy/GMC clutch pilot tool'....???? $3 plastic thing... sometimes free in a clutch kit... probably $4 in Canada.....

That's just what I might have to do........I was disappointed that I paid what I did for a lousy piece of plastic in the first place.........then to find out it wasn't even the proper piece of lousy plastic!! I would love to have a lathe but the problem with that is I'd have to learn a whole new set of skills. Last time I had my hands on a lathe was in grade 10 when we made a C-clamp. That was <cough cough> a few years ago.

Hey Tony, seeing that picture reminds me of a question I had for you about your ATV jack.
After having to improvise a lifting/holding system so I could free up my floor jack and a couple of jack stands yesterday and change the oil in my truck, I got thinking about that a lot more. What do you use? I see a few different types on the internet, some as cheap as $100.

On another note, I finally got the lower (PTO) shaft out of my tractor yesterday so I could remove the input shaft assembly to replace the seals. That was a project all to itself and putting it back together should be, ummm interesting. Had to make one puller for the PTO shaft cover (more redneck engineering). Maybe I'll start a thread about that and put up some pictures 'cause they sure would have helped me. With only having the I&T manual I really had to read between the lines. All the info is there you just have to read and re-read to get what you want from it. The seals I ordered showed up and my level of enthusiasm is slightly higher than it was a month ago so who knows, I might be putting it back together soon.

U N 2 R the other people I know who tore in to the tranny like that. So yes, I feel I must tell you about the ATV jack. I don't own an atv, and HOPE I never have to own a snowsled!
This was a harbor freight $59 on special thing, broke and re welded it, racked, warped, but I really abuse it! Tell ya, your poured concrete floor is the major tool for a nice tractor split. Any 'pair' or roller jacks will help, cause murphy's law sez it will drift apart in the process. But I do find this el cheapo deluxe atv thing paying for itself every few days... waiting for another sale! When you come down to our fergie only meet, I will award the old one to you as a door prize. don't worry, customs will not even think of charging you duty... they will feel sorry for you- or laugh at it...

They'd probably charge me a disposal fee.

As regards pulling the PTO shaft and getting in to replace the seals, I really couldn't justify not replacing the seals having gone to the trouble of splitting it and the expense of rebuilding the clutch.
I will take some pictures when I get time..........time..........it's been a busy weekend! Back to work tomorrow for a rest.
